Dr Liora Kempler

BAdvSci (Hons) PhD MAPS

Liora Kempler is a registered psychologist who treats adults experiencing insomnia, nightmares, parasomnias, and other sleep disorders, as well as depression and anxiety. She also specialises in sleep during pregnancy and the postpartum period, supporting women to manage sleep challenges for themselves and their infants.

She is drawn to the field of sleep psychology for its interdisciplinary nature and the complexity of co-morbidities, and is a qualified psychology supervisor who is passionate about developing a strong team of psychologists with expertise in understanding and treating sleep disorders.

Liora received her PhD from the University of Sydney in 2017, where she designed and evaluated a novel sleep intervention to help expectant mothers manage changes and challenges in their sleep during pregnancy and early motherhood. The program resulted in improved sleep quality and fewer insomnia symptoms at four months postpartum compared to controls. She graduated with a Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours), majoring in psychology, from the University of New South Wales in 2010. Her honours thesis investigated memory consolidation during sleep, with findings published in Memory in 2012.

Liora has presented her research widely across Australia, including Sydney, Canberra, Perth and Adelaide, as well as in Europe. In 2016, she received the New Investigator Award at the annual Australasian Sleep Association Conference.
